  • HEALTH

Broccoli is one of the most popular microgreens thanks to their many health benefits including high levels of vitamins A, C, and K, calcium, iron, and phosphorus!  Stem cell research shows that a component of Broccoli called sulforaphane may curb the growth of breast cancer, along with colorectal, pancreatic, lung, ovarian and stomach cancers. Eating 3-5 servings per week may reduce cancer risk by 30-40%.  Sulforaphane is also linked to promoting an anti-inflammatory response which reduces oxidative stress, a major cause of cardiac disease.  It also has been found to reduce blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetic patients.  The National Academy for Sciences has found that sulforaphane can also slow the process of aging, linking it to slowing the onset of Alzheimer’s and boosting brain functions that help to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Please note that while microgreens have many potential health benefits, it is essential to consume them as part of a balanced diet and not rely on them as the sole treatment for any medical conditions. Always consult with your primary healthcare professional before making any changes to your diet.

  • TASTE

This thin white stem with shades of green of leaves is a soft microgreen with a mild, fresh mild cabbage flavor.

  • USE

Try adding them to your scrambled eggs, just at the end of cooking them, or top your toast with avocado and broccoli microgreens. Want to take your cocktail or shake to the next level, add a sprinkle of broccoli on top for visual interest. They are best when eaten raw, added to salad, smoothies, and sandwiches so their nutritional value is not lost in cooking.  Next time you make ramen remember to add a handful of broccoli as you plate your dish! Have a creative way to use them… let us know!

  • STORAGE

To help your shoots get their longest shelf life, store your microgreens in a dry, cool place. Wash them just before eating. Storing them in a resealable bag or container with a lid works well. Add a paper towel if needed to remove water. Do not store them wet.  Your microgreens should store for 7-14 days in the refrigerator.  Many find these greens stay fresh for up to 30 days!
